Cruise — Day 07 — At sea — Victoria, B.C., Canada

Ship's time — 16:41(Thursday, June 15, 2006).
Ship's position — 48° 23.30' N, 124° 27.18' W(Strait of Juan de Fuca, just off Neah Bay Washington).

Pictures from this blog entry can be found here.

We won't reach Victoria until 8 PM, so we spent most of the day out of sight of land and only came into sight of Cape Flattery at the NW tip of Washington about an hour ago. It is raining on the coast pretty heavily in spots, but it hasn't gotten out here (4 miles off shore) yet. Hoping it is dry in Victoria, because we have no shore excursion booked; we are just going to stroll the waterfront.

Only things we did today other than eat were attending the Disembarkation briefing and the Mariner's Society champagne reception with the Captain and the ship's Hotel Manager. We are basically packed and are heading down to the dining room for dinner. More after we get back from our stroll on shore.

Update

Ship's time — 23:08 (Thursday, June 15, 2006).
Ship's position — 48° 24.95' N, 123° 23.35 W (at dock, Victoria, British Columbia).

We are less than a hour away from shoving off for Seattle. The cruise is nearly over. But instead of being sad, we have found another city to explore in September. Vicoria is a beautiful little city. Clean and neat with people friendly and willing to go out of their way to help out the confused tourist.

We blew five bucks a piece to buy all-day-passes for the Grey Line buses that run from the cruise ship docks to the center city by the inner harbor. We were let off at the Empress Hotel, a sister hotel to the Prince of Wales we visited in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta four years ago. We are considering staying there if we get back up here in September. Very elegant hotel and amazingly friendly staff. Of course, I left the camera on the ship as it was so late and I didn't want to be bothered with it coming back through security. Oh on security, if you have a passport, you can breeze right on through, but folks with only a driver's license were asked a bunch of questions.

We stayed only 90 minutes and went back to the ship as we still had a little packing left. How do you fold a cabin steward?

Tomorrow, Seattle.
